Ch 13- Martin is delighted with the fact that Mother is going to her book club for the evening. This gives him time to relish and enjoy his hobby. He has found a way to give himself power over others, and he loves every minute of it.

One clumsy fall in LAX and my life shifts midair.

I laugh it off...nervously.

I’m traveling halfway across the world to adopt a little girl named Dorothy.

Alejandro doesn’t smile when I check in. He just hands me my key like I’m a problem he didn’t ask for.
I try to brush it off, but something about his quiet intensity sets me on edge—and not in a bad way.
He’s brooding, yet gorgeous, and completely uninterested in making small talk with the upbeat, recently divorced woman crashing his perfectly controlled resort.
